AI Principles

Statement on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

1. Purpose

At Telenor Cyberdefence, we recognize the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance cybersecurity, automate complex tasks, and deliver better services to our customers.
We are equally aware of the ethical, legal, and societal responsibilities that come with its use.

This public statement outlines our principles and practices for the responsible use of AI, in alignment with the Telenor Principles for Responsible AI – Telenor Group, the EU AI Act, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What We Mean by “AI”

AI refers to machine-based systems that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infer from input data how to generate outputs – such as predictions, content, recommendations or decisions – that influence physical or virtual environments (cf. EU AI Act, Art. 3(1)).

This includes technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, and automated decision-making systems.

3. How We Use AI

We use AI to enhance our security operations and internal processes, including, but not limited to:

  • detecting cyber threats, anomalies, and malicious activity
  • supporting automated and assisted threat hunting
  • collecting, enriching, and analyzing threat intelligence
  • strengthening offensive and defensive security capabilities
  • enabling secure and efficient internal workflows and employee tools
  • supporting customer interactions through intelligent interfaces or chatbots

We do not use AI to profile individuals for marketing purposes or to make fully automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on individuals, unless the required safeguards, governance measures, and legal bases are in place.

All significant decisions remain subject to meaningful human oversight.

4. Our Principles for Responsible AI

Telenor Cyberdefence adheres to the six Responsible AI Principles defined by Telenor Group:

  1. Human Values, Rights and Privacy
We promote human dignity, autonomy and respect for rights across all our AI systems
  2. Fairness and Non-Discrimination
We test our systems to prevent unfair outcomes and bias.
  3. Data Governance
We use only lawful, high-quality data and manage it responsibly across the AI lifecycle.
  4. Safety and Security
We validate that AI systems are robust, secure, and embedded in our cybersecurity protocols.
  5. Transparency and Explainability
Users are informed when AI is used, and we strive to make decisions explainable where relevant.
  6. Human Oversight and Control
AI assists—but does not replace—human responsibility in significant decisions.

5. Your Rights and Our Commitments

We are committed to openness about our use of AI and to respecting individual rights.

If AI is used in a way that significantly affects your rights, you have the right to:

  • Be informed that AI is used
  • Receive meaningful information about the logic involved
  • Contest the decision
  • Request human intervention

These rights are upheld in accordance with GDPR Article 22, and any AI system used by Telenor Cyberdefence is subject to data protection and ethical review.
